Privacy Policy

PrepNest ("we", "us") is a meal-planning and grocery app run by Kale Bradley Rathbun, in Indiana, USA. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and how to delete it.

The short version

• No ads, no tracking, no data brokers. We never sell or rent your information.
• Most of what you tell PrepNest stays on your phone. If you create an account, your answers, your week and your pantry are backed up so you can restore them on a new phone.
• Your location is never saved to our servers.
• Deleting your account in the app deletes everything we hold about you, straight away.

What we collect and why

Your answers. Household size, goal, which meals and days to plan, cooking style and equipment, allergies, diets, foods you dislike or like, recipe ratings, and budget. The app uses them to plan your week. They stay on your phone unless you create an account, in which case they are backed up to it. Allergies and diets are health-related information; we use them only to keep unsafe recipes out of your plan.

Height, weight, age and sex. If you ask the app to calculate calorie and protein targets, these are used on your phone to do the maths and are then discarded. Only the resulting targets are kept.

Your email address. Only if you create an account. We use it to send six-digit sign-in codes and, rarely, messages about your account. We don't send marketing email.

An account ID. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account ID so features like shared lists and store connections work without signing up. If you later add an email, the same ID is kept.

Your week, pantry and grocery list. Stored on your phone, and backed up to your account if you have one. Ticking items off a list stays on your phone unless you share the list. With PrepNest Pro, your past weeks ("Plan history") and what's left over from last week's shopping are kept on your phone only.

PrepNest Pro. If you subscribe, Apple handles the payment: we never see your card or your Apple ID. RevenueCat, the service we use to manage subscriptions, receives your PrepNest account ID and Apple's record of your subscription (which plan, when it started, whether you're in a free trial, and when it renews or ends) so the app and our server know you have Pro. RevenueCat also shows us totals, like how many people subscribe; it doesn't see what you plan or cook.

Location. You choose between typing a ZIP code and tapping "Use my current location". If you use your location, the app rounds it to about 1 km before keeping it on your phone. To find stores, the app sends your ZIP code or rounded location to our server, which asks the store services below for nearby stores. Search results may be cached for up to about 12 hours to stay within those services' limits, without being linked to you. Your location is never saved to your account or our database.

What you type into "In the mood for something?" If you use this feature, your message (up to 300 characters) and a list of recipes that already passed your allergy and diet checks are sent to Anthropic's Claude to suggest which recipes to favor. No name, email, account ID, allergies or location is sent with it. The suggestion is cached for 24 hours so the same request isn't sent twice; the cache is not linked to you.

Shared grocery lists

If you share a list, the people who join with your code see the list, its prices and the store name. They never see your answers, allergies, plan or location. When you stop sharing, the list is deleted for everyone.

Stores and services we work with

We use these companies to run PrepNest. Each only receives what it needs for its part:

If you connect your Kroger account, you sign in on Kroger's own page. We never see your Kroger password. Kroger gives us a token that lets the app add items to your cart; it is stored encrypted on our server and deleted if you disconnect or delete your account.

If you tap "Shop this list at Walmart", your phone opens Walmart's own page with the items on your list in your Walmart cart. There is no account connection: we never see your Walmart account, and nothing is sent to Walmart about you from our servers. Walmart links may let Walmart credit PrepNest for a purchase (an affiliate link). If so, we may learn that a purchase came through our link and its value, never who made it.

Kroger, Walmart, Google and Apple handle what you do on their sites and apps under their own privacy policies.

What we don't do

• No advertising, no ad identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.
• No analytics or crash-reporting tools that follow what you do in the app. The only totals we see are RevenueCat's subscription figures. If we add crash reporting, we will update this policy first.
• We don't sell or share your information for advertising, and we don't use it to train AI models. Anthropic does not train its models on data sent through its commercial API.

Keeping and deleting your information

• Delete your account: Profile tab → Your account → Delete account. This removes every record we hold about you, including any connected store account and your record at RevenueCat, immediately and permanently. There is no grace period. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a PrepNest Pro subscription: Apple bills it, so cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Apple keeps its own record of your purchases under its privacy policy.
• Sign out: removes your information from the phone. It stays in your account until you delete it.
• Without an account: everything is on your phone. Deleting the app deletes it.

You can also email us at support@getprepnest.com to ask what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it. We'll answer within 30 days.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit. Every table in our database is locked so each person can only read their own rows, which is checked by automated tests. Store connection tokens are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to collect as little as possible.

Children

PrepNest is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@getprepnest.com and we will delete it. For people under 18, the app never plans a calorie deficit.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states, the UK or the EU), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, and to object to some uses of it. You can use most of these rights in the app; for anything else, email support@getprepnest.com. We won't treat you differently for using them.

Our website

getprepnest.com uses no cookies, analytics or ads, and asks nothing of you. Like any website, it's delivered by a hosting company (Cloudflare), which handles your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, under its own privacy policy.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
